Jim Becker
Jim was born in Washington DC in 1951 and his family lived in Arlington, VA where he was baptized a Roman Catholic. On November 20th 1970 he asked Jesus into his heart and while at Virginia Tech in September 1972 he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. After receiving his BS in Electrical Engineering degree in 1974, he went to work for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY where in fulfillment of prophesies, he provided many volunteer services at the local Children’s Home. From this ministry, God impacted his life in a special way.
In October of 1976 Jim moved back to Virginia and started to attend Christian Assembly where his twin brother, Stephen, was an associate pastor. In 1980 given his reputation and volunteer work, Social Services pursued encouraging him to accept the challenge of becoming a single-adoptive-parent to Ray who he had known since 1974 and was approaching the age of 13 at the time. The social workers had given up hope of finding a two-parent family to rescue Ray from an institutionalized future. Jim empowered by the knowledge that Christ was there to help him overcome his own limitations, was led to adopt Ray, born in 1966. Then in 1983 he adopted Danny, born in 1970. He later became a foster parent to two additional sons (Peter Benjamin, born in 1969 and James Chittenden, born in 1979). Jim became an empty-nester in 1991 and this allowed him the time and flexibility to find a wife. Ministry life might have been easier for him when he was single, but his marriage to Carol in June of 2002 was a powerful testament to God’s faithfulness to him. Jim has known Carol since High School in 1968 and they have been friends ever since. They dated in the 1980s but his sons created an obstacle. When Carol and Jim were reunited in 2001, events moved quickly as they got engaged on St. Patrick’s Day in 2002 and were married just 3 months latter. This made Carol an instant stepmother and grandmother (i.e., 3 granddaughters: Penny Becker, Tiffany Doyle & Celina Benjamin and 1 grandson: John James Chittenden).
Jim & Carol thank God for their marriage which is full of love, fun, travel, and hard work. Carol is wonderful beyond words and works as a “Manufacturer’s Rep” for Broyhill Furniture and is also the Treasurer for the Reps Association. Jim is known as a good and caring guy who tries to do too much. He is a deacon at Christian Assembly, president of their Homeowner’s Association, on the board of Vinesong Ministries USA, and is involved in two historical societies with his dad. Jim works with the US Marine Corps’ oversight efforts for the development of the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) at General Dynamics in Woodbridge, VA.
Jim thanks God for all of the men and women of God who have sown seeds of truth, love and healing into his life. He is acutely aware that he is a high performance “Human Doing” who works with the help of other Christian men to keep his focus and balance as a “Human Being” whose life is rooted-in and built-upon the solid rock of Christ our Lord. It takes committed people who have a genuine interest in his life to help him in setting boundaries and priorities to our Lord, his wife, family, church, ministry, work, friends and future associates (both saved and unsaved). Jim looks to build relationships within the church for prayer, worship, fellowship, communion, and effective counsel/advice to bless his body, soul and spirit. Jim believes that we all must aggressively pursue accountability, continued growth in our faith, health, and effectiveness in being and becoming the Men-of-God we were created and called to be. His prayer for all is that God will bless you and keep you always close to Him and that you may effectively utilize the full amour of Christ to protect you from the schemes of our enemy and his minions who are relentless in their pursuit to kill, rob, and destroy God’s army, plans and purposes.
